Selon Deadline, l’acteur et ancien cascadeur Max Zhang intègre le prestigieux casting du reboot de Highlander que Chad Stahelski met en scène pour Amazon MGM Studios et United Artists. Il rejoint Henry Cavill, Russell Crowe, Marisa Abela, Karen Gillan, Djimon Hounsou et Dave Bautista.
Révélé comme cascadeur sur Tigre et Dragon, Max Zhang a depuis imposé son style élégant et énigmatique dans le cinéma d’action hongkongais, notamment avec The Grandmaster (qui lui valut le Hong Kong Film Award du meilleur second rôle), Rise of the Legend, SPL II, Ip Man 3, The Brink ou encore Master Z: The Ip Man Legacy, où il partageait l’affiche avec Michelle Yeoh, Dave Bautista et Tony Jaa. Il a également fait la joie du DTV chinois avec The Wild Blade of Strangers. Il avait déjà fait une incursion à Hollywood dans Pacific Rim Uprising.
Le projet, scénarisé par Michael Finch, réinvente le film de 1986 signé Russell Mulcahy, qui avait propulsé Christopher Lambert et Sean Connery dans une bataille millénaire entre immortels. Ce reboot pourrait ouvrir la voie à une nouvelle série de films.
